Routine maintenance inspection found that oil was seeping from the cam carrier. The car was driven for less than 20k miles, and less than 3.5 years on the road. Engine was removed and and resealed at 19754 miles under the 5 year/60k miles power train warranty. Car stayed for 15 days at the dealership.
About 250 miles later, electrical systems misbehaved (power steering off, door locks out of sync, all warning lights randomly on and off). Car would eventually not start anymore. It was found that the alternator cable was loose. I guess that was a mistake that happened upon engine reassembly, but still a major snafu.
I never owned a car that developed an oil leak at such a low mileage and age. Really, Subaru? I should mention that our dealer also refused to reseal the other side preventively (it was "bone dry"); guess I should not be surprised if the other side starts leaking in a few thousand miles, when the powertrain warranty has expired...
