I went to the Subaru dealership to try to claim the defect under warranty because it had only been 2 years since I purchased the vehicle and the local dealership where I purchased the vehicle refused to fix the rust saying that they did their own investigation and determined that the rust was caused by "outside influences" and was not covered under warranty despite me not living near anything that could potentially cause rust like the ocean and I had never taken the vehicle to the beach at all.
