Car was in the garage. Wife went down to start it and it immediately revved to extremely high rpms to the point it shook the house. Our garage is underneath our house. My wife turned the car off and it did the same thing again. I went down stairs and started it and the same thing happened to me.
We then called Subaru assurance who handle warranty issues.and had the car towed. The tow truck driver wanted me to try and back the car out of our garage because of our steep driveway. I started the car and again same problem. Car was loaded on the tow truck and taken to the dealer. They could not replicate the problem. No error messages on the computer and no parts replaced. And no, the floor mat had not moved and was not depressing the accelerator.
Told the dealer that we would not drive the car again because of worry about sudden acceleration and our concern about an accident and injury. Worked with the dealer and Subaru corporate to rectify the issue. After much correspondence and multiple phone calls we ended buying anew car, an outback. The time frame for our resolution was over one month. We were not planning on buying anew car but felt it was the best solution to a bad experience.
I will say that Subaru corporate was very helpful and understanding in finding a solution that we were comfortable with.
