Experienced acceleration hesitation on my 2013 2.0i Premium Subaru Impreza. From a complete stop, found a gap in traffic (busy hwy outside my neighborhood) stepped on the accelerator to merge onto a hwy and the car had enough power to roll forward into the path of a car that was fast approaching. I floored the accelerator and the car acted as if the transmission had not downshifted (like if you were driving a manual transmission and tried to get going on 3rd or 4th gear). After a couple of seconds I put the car in reverse and the speeding car barely missed me.
I took the car to the dealer and had a mechanic drive with me. I tried to reproduce the problem, but could not duplicate. I was told that there was nothing that they could do without reproducing the problem.
The issue came up again (and too bad there was no mechanic riding with me all the time). This issue seemed to come up in the morning as I was leaving my neighborhood. I tried to duplicate several times, but no luck. Intermittent issues are difficult to root cause without a diagnostic capture....
Since I considered this a safety issue and did not think that Subaru's policy to 'must reproduce in order to fix' really addressed intermittent issues (thinking it was an issue with this particular vehicle did not check blogs), I traded my car in for a 2014 Subaru Legacy (which also had the same issue)
Please file your complaint on carcomplaints.com and safercar.gov. Subaru may be pressured into addressing the issue with enough voices complaining about the same issue.
