I started commuting 120 mi/day in my car. Prior to that I had a commuter car to get me back & forth to work. I had no issues with the Subaru until I started this daily long drive then they started to show up one right after another over the last 2 weeks.
On the 3rd day of my commute I started to smell oil burning and gasoline inside my car. This went on for few days. The last day I am sitting at a red light and the rpm's start jumping up and down with the car near stalling, then they shot back up & back down again. This went on for 2 cycles. Right after this happened the engine starts making the strangest noises like it was sucking air & I was hearing this clicking noise. I scheduled an apt with the dealer, to no avail, they found no leaks of any kind, no codes thrown and dash lights on. So the issue was never found.
I was able to narrow it down to that when the windshield vent is turned on the air compressor runs which I found in the manual to be normal. However, when this vent is open, the rpms jump up and down. A few days later after leaving the dealer I come to a stop and step on the pedal to pull out & the car doesn't want to move and it starts making this loud clicking noise in the center of the dash. I am scheduled at the dealer once again on 10/22. Will provide an update then.
Update from Feb 8, 2015: Update-2/8/15- It has been sometime since I logged my initial complaint. Much was going with my car at the time. Prior to the dealer visit, several other incidents had occurred. There was a popping sound coming from the backend of the car. When I was stopped at a red light at an intersection the car left such a strong backfire out the exhaust that it raised the back rear end of the car up. Then the day before the dealer visit the check eng light starts blinking on & off. When I left the car at the dealer for the day, they assured me the problem would be found. They completed a full electrical test on all components to determine that no faulty parts existed. The ECM was reset back to factory settings. I have not had a problem since. Until last weekend. I will log this separate under engine. My car currently has 25592 miles and still under warranty.
