The Rod Bearing came apart in a Subaru Impreza that was purchased 20feb09. This was a major repair for a car less then 5 months old. Extremely upset with the way Subaru handled this repair. We were told that the engine would be replaced or because of the extent of damage they may replace the car. After several days the service department was told to tear down the engine. the car was in the shop 18 days, repairing not replacing the engine. replaced rod bearing, connecting rod, oil pump and several other parts affected by bearing material. Would you buy a car that has had the engine rebuilt with only 5122 miles on it? After talking to a couple of mechanics who said they would have replaced the engine, I was even more disappointed in Subaru's decision. What will this do to the resale value of a $26000 car? How many more problems will we have because of it?
Update from Jul 10, 2009: AFTER BEING TOLD SUBARU WAS GOING TO EITHER REPLACE ENGINE WITH NEW OR REPLACE CAR, AFTER 15 DAYS IN THE SHOP I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD REPAIR THE PARTS THAT WHERE DAMAGED. THIS INCLUDED REPLACING THE CONNECTING ROD BEARING, CONNECTING ROD, OIL PUMP, PLUS OTHER PARTS THAT WHERE AFFECTED BY THE ROD BEARING GOING OUT. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED FEB 20 09. THIS IS HOW SUBARU STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. AFTER TALKING TO SEVERAL MACHANICS I WAS VERY SURPRISED THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE. 18 DAYS IN THE SHOP ONLY 12 MORE BEFORE LEMON LAW KICKS IN. IT SUCKS. THANKS FOR LISTENING.
