On every single Subaru I've driven since '97 w/the 4EAT or 4EAT-S transmission has had a huge delay when pressing the gas for a downshift, followed by very hard and overly aggressive downshift then I would often need to lift throttle quickly causing a very hard and loud upshift.
There have been flashes for the TCU, but the improvements were minimal and often the transmission went back to it's old ways. Only to be told the stereotypical Subaru service line "the car is working within spec or no problem can be identified"
Some 11 years after driving my first Impreza w/the 4EAT I feel like Subaru has ignored at least a decade of common complaints. I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between all six 4EAT/4EAT-S models I've driven.
Tired of Subaru ignoring chronic problems,
