Starting this past spring mice have been building nests in the cargo area of the car. Rear hatch body plugs were not installed, found them in back of car. Took the vehicle to the Subaru dealership and they installed plugs. Found another nest a couple of weeks later. Tried various traps, repellants including shake away mouse repellant, red pepper flakes, peppermint oil, Irish Spring soap, cinnamon etc. They have been unsuccessful.
I think the original mouse/mice left it's scent (pheromones) in car and now attracts new mice to area. Have been in contact with both the dealer and main customer service. Just found another nest this week, think this is 5 so far. I have two other vehicles parking in same area garage and outside and have had no issues ever. Asked dealer to shoot me a price to remove rear bumper and install wire mesh over vent area, they are telling me that is a bad idea. The mice have even chewed on the foam insert, I bought this car new and now am totally disgusted. I view this as a safety issue, if a mouse crawled on me while driving chances are I would crash. I do not eat or leave food in the car. Seriously considering trading it in, going through lots of disinfectant.
