CarComplaints.com Notes: Subaru thinks burning through a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so is perfectly normal. That's a crude stance if you ask us.

I was driving on the freeway at 80mph and suddenly the engine stopped. I crossed the lanes to get on the right shoulder, stopped and tried starting it with no luck. I had been driving for approx. 200 miles at 80mph. It had 2/12 bars on the fuel gauge and 80 miles to empty when it happened. The check engine light did not come on. The add fuel light wasn't even on yet. I was watching the gauge as I drove and it seemed to be working.
I had it towed to the nearest Subaru dealer and I was picked up by a family member. The next day I brought gas, added it and it started right up. I've been testing my gas gauge since but it seems to be pretty accurate based on the tank size. My best guess at this point is that the fuel pump overheated due to the long drive and somewhat low fuel level. I was lucky I had family nearby and coats for myself and my son when it stalled but it was still a big inconvenience.
