CarComplaints.com Notes: Subaru thinks burning through a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so is perfectly normal. That's a crude stance if you ask us.

Forester Premium 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 105,000 miles

While accelerating from a roll to merge onto a new roadway/highway, my vehicle hesitated and the gas pedal was unresponsive. The Vehicle Stability light, ABS Light, and Traction Lights all illuminated. The car was also having issues with getting stuck in park. The vehicle was brought to the dealership and issue was repaired no charge as there was a Recall Issued for the Brake Light Switch being defective.

Forester Premium 2.5i

  • CVT transmission
  • 36,000 miles

Engine hesitates when accelerating after a stop. It lasts 2-3 seconds and then starts out but at a low speed. It's very dangerous when merging, turning in front of oncoming traffic, etc. Happens intermittently. I have taken it to Subaru dealer and two other mechanics, who are unable to replicate the problem. Subaru really needs to fix this! One mechanic said the oxygen sensor measured low and to switch to premium gas. That didn't make any difference.

Forester 2.5

  • CVT transmission

My forester has always had a delay when accelerating. My wife and I drive in big city traffic and merging onto highways from the on ramp is taking my life in my hands! The acceleration problems do not always happen but more frequently as the car came to 60000 miles and of course, the end of the warranty. when I brought it up to the local dealership several times I was told this was "normal" for the CVT transmission, and they would be able to look at it for 3 months (after the warranty expired). if that's the case, the CVT transmission is dangerous! this was my first and last Subaru experience as I have had nothing but repairs since I hit the 60000 mile mark.

Forester Premium 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 29,500 miles

From a stop the throttle is dead and will not pick up speed for 2 to 3 seconds, then it comes alive & am able to drive away . When in dead period the tach stays at idle no matter how much throttle I give it. This happens maybe once every 2 months. It gets scary pulling out into traffic. I have replaced the throttle pedal in the car but did not help. I do like the car but I need help.

Forester Touring 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 10,000 miles

Engine hesitates on acceleration, especially when making left turns from a dead stop, leaving me stuck in the oncoming lane for several seconds. This is a recurring problem and is very dangerous!

Service manager says it’s due to applying brake and gas at the same time while waiting for oncoming cars to clear, but it happens even when I’m careful not to do that. Nearly been hit several times.

It’s virtually impossible to accelerate without feeling hesitation and surging, even in a straight line.

I don’t trust this car and I have zero respect for Subaru for ignoring this ongoing problem.
