CarComplaints.com Notes: Subaru thinks burning through a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so is perfectly normal. That's a crude stance if you ask us.

Used to be, you had one knob for fan speed, one for temperature, a selector for where to blow the air, and a switch for the AC. Now I've got three knobs, with vaguely defined functions and seemingly random connections to the underlying systems. Most of the time, I just want to ventilate fresh air into the interior, but that seems to be impossible to do without first turning on the AC, in either recirc mode or not, and fussing with all the knobs until the little picture shows everything to be as desired. The Owners Manual explains all this in only 13 pages, if you first determine whether you've got a Type A, Type B, Type C, or Type D climate control system. For my Type C system, there are only 9 things to remember, so maybe there's hope. (Pity the poor bugger with a Type D, who has 11.) I think the guy who wrote the manual also wrote the IKEA assembly manuals.
