rpm surges when heat is on during braking or downshift
Began experiencing these scary rpm surges this fall when the heat is running. Took the car to its regular service place 4 times & they tried several fixes then finally suggested taking it to the Subaru dealer. Although the weather was unseasonably warm at this point (60-70 degrees in December for God's sake) we ran the heat during several test drives & were unable to duplicate the problem. I explained to them that it probably has something to do w/the outside temperature (duh) but they blew me off. They refused to run diagnostics & said "come back if the problem re-occurs". Well it is cold out now & I am experiencing screaming rpms that are really scary but they stop if I turn off the heat. I would take it back to the dealer but I doubt that they will do anything. If anyone out there has experienced this condition or has any suggestions, I would love to hear it. thanks!
