I bought the car from used car dealer, and after driving it less than 20 days, the check engine light came on. I took it to the closest Subaru Dealer. I did an oil change and swapped the solenoids from one side to the other. I drove away, got about a block or two and the check engine light comes back on. Subaru dealership advised me to keep driving to see if it would go off. I drove it, no change, but the car still run like crap. Three days later, it would not start. It was completely seized.
The recall apparently was done on this vehicle for the valve springs, but I think the engine failure was due to that being done incorrectly.
I had to have the vehicle towed to the Subaru dealer where they confirmed engine is done. That was a cost of over $600 as I am not close to the dealer. Now Subaru says it's $10K to rebuild engine using new block as there is not a used engine anywhere in North American. Warranty company will only come up to $2400 and original car dealer is blaming Subaru mechanics, saying they did the oil change correctly.
So, now my son in University that used his life savings for the downpayment has no car, no money and no way of coming up with $10K to fix it - and it is also financed.
Subaru Canada - if this is a known engine defect, this needs to be fixed ASAP and NOT at my expense.
