As I drove home there was less and less resistance in the clutch, and it started to smell. I made it home, called the dealer, and then went to drive it to the dealership (about 30km). The smell and the noises made me think better of it, and I called a recovery vehicle.
At Subaru in Dubai, they overhauled the clutch. This is the second clutch problem I have had, and I have also had two transmission problems. I have listed these problems separately.
Given the repeated problems, I am not convinced that Subaru's solution is the answer. I think there is something else wrong here but there is no desire to investigate, or even pass the problems on.
This incident occurred a few thousand km after the warranty had expired. Had I bought a Toyota 86 instead (almost exactly the same car - minor trim differences), Toyota's unlimited mileage warranty would have saved me a great deal of money. I believe Toyota would have also paid for the recovery vehicle (not that expensive, actually).
