When I got home from picking up my brand new Ascent and tried to operate the rear hatch, it would not open. Dash button = 2 beeps, no door open. Fob button = 2 beeps, no door open. Hatch handle button = 2 beeps, no door open. So I leaned on the hatch, hit the hatch with my palm & hip - all in the thought that maybe its not all the way closed. All that got was some dents in the surprisingly fragile hatch but no door open. I finally crawled through the back seat to empty the cargo area.
With the help of google I found that this issue with the rear hatch is a known problem. I learned how to open it manually with a screwdriver which I completed. After I got the hatch open it still wouldn't respond to commands from any source. Again google informed me I should pull /re-attach the + battery lead to 're-boot' the door operations, which I did, it worked.
This has occurred only the once but this experience significantly reduced my love of the vehicle and left me suspicious of Subaru for not fixing this known problem and letting me happily driving away with this likelihood. Its also left me with dents in the hatch.
