Just after 105,000 miles, I noticed that my vehicle was indecisive of the gear it wanted to be in around 40mph. The vehicle would also act like it shifted prematurely and rattle and sound concerning. It made my want to punch the accelerator for it acting like it didn’t know how to perform (not that it would fix itself). The issue did not cause anything but an annoyance.
At 110,000 miles, the dealership performing the maintenance admitted that there were recalls on the torque converter for select Toyota models. However, my vehicle did not have one and they said the torque converter was the issue. Upon testing the oil, metal shavings were found inside and the transmission would only get worse. I was told a replacement transmission was my only option. I elected to purchase a used transmission. It is performed great, so far.
I am a vehicle owner who drives with care and provides regular maintenance for the vehicle whenever needed. It’s a shame that the transmission went but it is the first major problem I’ve ever had with the vehicle.
