Car makes a buzzing/whining noise/whirring noise around 2k rpms in each gear, once it shifts the pitch changes or stops until it gets under load again. At cruising speed it may or may not happen at all. I can definitely make this do this sound at will by accelerating and holding steady pressure on gas until it shifts. I'm going to try a transmission service and see if that makes any change in. It does seem to happen less once it's warmed up, but not always.
Update from Sep 8, 2015: Well, its the transmission, the fluid was so burnt, two different shops advised me to NOT change it as it definitely would stop working if I did, probably within the next day or two. Both advised me that the transmission was shot, I found a salvage yard one with 33k miles on it for $650 and its getting installed for $350 plus cost of new seals and better SYNTHETIC transmission fluid.
WARNING. Please God, ignore your stupid Scion owner manual and service your transmission, preferably every 30k miles, at the very least every 60k miles. If you use a quality synthetic blend and dump that crappy WS Toyota fluid which breaks down at high temperature and change it every 3 years or 30k miles your tranny should last the lifetime of your car. FYI. My car has never towed anything, Never been abused at all, all adult owners who has pampered this vehicle. I can assure you a transmission drain and fill will be a routine thing now. One more thing, Scion says in the maintenance schedule to ONLY check the transmission fluid, my schedule goes to 120k and its never said change fluid, actually the opposite, it says the ws fluid should last the life of your car. Well between running it dry because of excessive oil consumption and a transmission failing totally the life of a car is not very long. 92k miles and 8 years.. Not very good from a Toyota.
