definitely annoying
transmission problem

The noise just gets louder and louder with more mileage, so loud that it's embarrassing and must be repaired. The part is only about $30 but you must tear down the entire transmission. Luckily I had an extended warranty otherwise it's about $2600. I had the repair performed at my private mechanic and not Toyota. I have two 2011 Scion tC and they both required the repair because the noise was unbearable. I replaced the clutch at the same time. Has happened since very low mileage. Toyota/Scion insists there is not an issue. Others from forums have noted that some dealerships do find a TSB for the issue. If you are experiencing the issue that sounds much like a noisy bearing please contact your dealership and note TSB# S-SB-0008-13. So far this is only showing in Toyota USA.
With the above being said the new part has been known to also fail and make noise as well soon after transmission removal and bearing replacement.
