Car in very good condition. After work drive home and the car's sharking and dead. Check engine light came on and gas pedal no longer responded. Replace a new throttle body cost 750.00 dollars.(by myself) then take the old throttle apart .It was corrosion at the metal gear. Caused by moisture collected in there. I think bad design by Toyota.

I was driving on the George Bush Turnpike going 75 mph when the engine on my car died. There was no warning whatsoever of an impending failure. Fortunately traffic was light and I was able to get over to the shoulder safely and park the car. After turning everything off and restarting, there was no throttle response from the pedal and the car was continuously bouncing between 700 rpm and 2000 rpm. After a few restarts the car decided it would be okay to let me drive and I limped it to a mechanically inclined friend, but not before losing power 4 more times on the way, once on I-20 in Arlington which was nerve-wracking.

Pulled a P2112 code from the CEL which translates to throttle control actuator stuck closed. We cleaned the MAF sensor, removed and cleaned the throttle body and reassembled. No noticeable improvement to driveability. Decided to replace entire throttle body assembly. $850 OEM part! I bought a third party manufactured TB from buyautoparts.com for $350. Replacement TB has been revised from the defective TB. This type of failure could have caused a serious accident, I can't believe there were no recalls made for this. I was able to fix it myself for the cost of a new part only, but this could easily cost $1000-$1400 at a dealership.

This is the first major problem I have had with this car, but any defect causing a complete loss of power and partial control (power steering is lost when engine is off) while at high speed is a pretty big goddamn problem.
