Purchased car from dealer in April of 07. 13 months later I was on my way home from work in heavy traffic when all of a sudden the car shuddered and everything shut down. In the middle of traffic I had to man-handle the stalled vehicle off onto a fishing pier as it was the only safe area to park. Took the car to two different shops. The first of which said the engine was completely done and it would cost over 2 thousand dollars to replace the engine. Had the car towed back to my house a quarter of a mile away for 85 dollars. The second shop told me right away what the problem was on the phone. They picked it up for free, had new heads casted for the engine and replaced the timing chain. The total repair from them was just over 1 thousand dollars. Afterwards, the car ran better than it did when I first got it! Upon returning to the dealer to voice my complaints, they were no longer there and all listings for them had been removed from all official sources. When I inquired with the second shop one what caused the problem, I was told the issue was extremely common in this model of car and was a design defect.
