Lost Power Steering
2008 Saturn Aura
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Saturn dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Aura’s issues with brakes, such as worn out rotors, isn’t as severe as the prior model year, but let’s just not start awarding them any brake awards just yet. Does that even exist? “The Brakies”?
One thing the 2008 does share with the 2007 is a recall of a busted gear shifter cable which can make it look like your car is in park, when the transmission is still engaged. You can only imagine what kind of fun that causes.

In November 2014 I received recall information for the Body Control Module-BCM, Brake Apply Sensor-BAS & the Electric Power Assist-EPA for my Saturn which at that time was not experiencing any problems with any of these systems. Nevertheless, since it was a recall issues I took the vehicle to my local GM Dealer on January 2nd 2015 who serviced the car for these things or at least they said they did.
Suddenly, on September 13th 2018 after getting my tires rotated, I'm driving home from the tire shop & notice that the steering is next to impossible to maneuver. Then the ESC indicator illuminates & I realize that I have a problem with the EPA system that the car was recalled for. I contacted the GM Dealer who was responsible for supposedly replacing the items. The Service person not only said that the recall on the vehicle had expired he also insisted that it could be anything else in spite of the indicator & loss of power steering that could be the problem. I did express to him that I really didn't think so & felt that something such as these recalled issues should not have to be replaced again within a 3 year period & asked also if they would be responsible enough to work with me on fixing this without passing the complete charges on to me if it is what the vehicle was recalled for & they supposedly fixed. At this point they are not willing to do so.
More than anything so that I will know what I have to work with here is to understand how long the power steering system for this car should last with proper care & maintenance on the vehicle being done consistently. I really think that this system should not be malfunctioning again, especially not within 3 years of the first replacement. Please let me know what I should expect with this system & what I could consider doing.
Thank you,
