CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Aura’s issues with brakes, such as worn out rotors, isn’t as severe as the prior model year, but let’s just not start awarding them any brake awards just yet. Does that even exist? “The Brakies”?
One thing the 2008 does share with the 2007 is a recall of a busted gear shifter cable which can make it look like your car is in park, when the transmission is still engaged. You can only imagine what kind of fun that causes.

The ENG PWR REDUCED light came on and could only go about 10 miles an hour. Later that night tried to start engine and no problem. A mechanic looked at it and said that the Catalytic Converter need to be fixed. Said that we could drive down to Ensenada B.C. Mexico no problem. So we started out and got on the Freeway I5 and after about 3 miles the light came on again and dangerously had to change lanes to get to the next exit. Took the car back to Santa Ana. Called the mechanic and said to bring it in the next day. He borrowed a reader of the codes and said that the Throttle Sensor was bad. He suggested a mechanic and he told me that he could get another Throttle Sensor and install and program the computer. ($500) Problem fixed. NO! We went to Ensenada and had no problems to visit my wife's family. Then when we went to leave, passed the Ensenada Toll Booth then when passing the Rosarito Toll Booth the ENG PWR REDUCED light came on and no power. Pulled over and waited for an hour and started the engine and decided to return to Ensenada to get it fixed. Went around 25 miles and again the light came on and no power. pulled to the side of the road.Stopped 2 more times to finally get to Ensenada. The mechanic told me that the Throttle Sensor was defective. He removed it and I took a bus back to the U.S. and the mechanic in the U.S. traded me for another new Throttle Sensor. Back to Mexico by bus. Mechanic installed and when driving it to ensure that all was good the Warning light went on again. He said he had a mechanic that did Electrical on cars. Days later he said he was unable to fix it and said the catalytic converter code came up but that there was no problem with it. Suggested to get the tire sensors to get rid of that light also. Another bus trip to the U.S. to buy 2 tire sensors ($54 dollars a piece) bought an extra one just in case. Bus back to Mexico. Tire sensors installed and thought that would fix the problem, days passed and still no fix. The mechanic suggested to take the car to the U.S. to get it fixed. Filled up the car with gas went two blocks and again the ENG PWR REDUCED and power was gone. Turned the corner and and a couple of blocks down saw another mechanic who fixed electrical problems. Weeks passed and supposedly he took it to a place that had the equipment to fix it. To say the least I am still in Mexico and it is the 26th of August. The mechanic to fix it the wait is approx. 1 month.
