CarComplaints.com Notes: The Saturn Aura was a mid-size car meant to replace the somewhat problematic L-Series. Unfortunately, the Aura brought its own problems: namely cheap brake parts that needed early replacement and a gear shifter that could say it’s in park while the transmission was still engaged.

Brake problems, including uneven wear and warped rotors that cause the car to wobble, are common complaints from 2007 owners. Did GM use metal for its rotors that can’t stand the heat? That’s what some say, and it’s hard to argue when reports show that rotors could start to warp as early as 500 miles off the dealer lot.

Meanwhile, a busted gear shifter cable lead to some unwanted rollaways. That’s because the shifter could say “Park” while the transmission was still in drive, reverse or neutral. A defect investigation into the issue was opened in 2011, eventually leading to a recall of 56,000 vehicles in 2014.

Aura XR 4

The car completely shut down twice after picking it up from the service station where it was for repairs.

The dealer found an oil leak and replaced and sealed the timing cover and replaced timing chains and added shims to cam. They performed a brake system flush and refilled with fresh fluids. They preformed a power steering flush and filled with fresh fluids. They replaced a faulty passenger presence module, heater and connector. They replaced BCM and programmed.

They said that everything was repaired that was causing the problems with the Service ESC, Traction and Airbag idiot lights. Two days later all the idiot lights came back on. On the way to the dealers the next day, the car completely shut off and died. It restarted after putting it in park.

After picking the Aura up from the dealer two days earlier when they "repaired" all the issues, the engine light came on again, along with the service traction light. On the way to the dealer, the car stopped running again. The dealership had my car for three days and when I called to inquire about it I was told that they could not find anything wrong with it. They cleaned the connections and the engine light went off and has not come back on. I picked up the Aura the fourth day after being at the dealer.

Two days later the engine light came on again. I had On-Star perform a diagnostic test and it came back with two codes. I took the car back to the dealer the next morning, November 16th and I also did a diagnostics test with my CarMD and it had the same codes the On-Star diagnostics had, plus a few more. I asked them to please check all of the codes. On-Star said one was the ignition.

After a day and a half, and nothing from the dealer, I called them and found out that I had a faulty BCM, the same BCM that they had supposedly replaced three weeks earlier!! They put in a new one today and that one was also faulty, now they are waiting for another one to arrive tomorrow. How long can this go on? The service guy said he wasn't going to charge me for the new one, I told him I hope not since they just replaced it a few weeks earlier.................I thought the new computers in cars, that are a pain, are supposed to make finding problems easier.

This has been going on for six weeks. I was going to be traveling for Thanksgiving, but I am now afraid to take the vehicle on the road for fear it my cut off on me traveling at 70 MPH.

My car is supposed to be ready tomorrow, we will have to wait to see if the BCM is faulty or good or if that is even the problem. They do not seem to know and I am losing, or I have already lost, confidence in them.

Does anyone know of a recall for this problem?

Thanks for your help.

I believe GMC has decided that since they don't make Saturn anymore they would rather not deal with them. Saturn was definitely a better product then the standard GM Products and wish they had discontinued something other the Saturn. I wish they would take ownership of the problems that arise with the cars and correct this with minimal to no cost to the owners. I had seen there was a recall on the Saturn Aura and was told mine was not a part of the recall even though I have experienced the same problems that are described in the recall.

I will be driving my car and then the engine power reduced and traction service will flash. My car will barely accelerate, so I have to put my four ways on, which is dangerous when you are on a fast busy road. I have gotten a diagnostics done. I have brought it to 3 different service spots and paid now over $700 in services, which they said they fixed it, but they haven't! Now I am without a car as a single mom can't afford anymore services and can't afford another car. I see this issue a lot with Saturn Aura online, but no one can find a solution!
