throttle light cuts power very dangerous in traffic
Stay away from Ram diesel Promaster until they have a fix and will admit to having had the problem. This problem or event has occurred many hundreds of time over the past 112000 miles since march of 2014 and continues too this date. It is my opinion that not only does Chrysler not have a solution, but the lack of dealer support for, not only this problem, but Promaster diesel problems in general, is tying the hands of dealers.
This problem that, in my opinion, is an electrical problem between the accelerator and the turbocharger cuts power to the diesel, without regard to traffic, causing a serious danger condition. With your speed limited, the solution is to light emergency flashers and depend on your surrounding fellow ever understanding and courteous drivers to allow you to get to the side of the road and shut down the engine. Restarting the engine will allow you full power and the throttle light will go out leaving the yellow engine light on where it will remain on for 3 engine cycles. The precursor to the event occurring is about a 3 second window where if your mind is otherwise not occupied, you might notice a hesitance to accelerate normally or you might think it sluggish. stay close to the right 'cause it's going to do it again. The turbo is not spinning up fast enough and Chrysler thinks it's more important to protect the engine from damage than the passengers and driver.
I suggest that you take a photo of the data cluster, being sure to catch the flashing throttle light on, each and every time. Build a photo file that demonstrates the mileage sequence.
