Had the same thing happen to my 2500 ProMaster fuel version. Dealer just called, said it was a $25 Fuel Pump relay. Was faulty so it would act up and I would get the engine cranking, but would not start. Had it happen at around 9,000 miles, then again at 84,000 four times in one week, then finally happened at the dealers with 86,000.
Good luck to you and hope this helps. Dealer said tech is 99% sure that was the issue. I'll try to update if it comes back. Excited to have it back after over a week at the dealers! Those of you with problems, try just replacing the Fuel Pump Relay and see if that solves your issue, because the diagnostics can be expensive.
