While veering to avoid it, the contact crashed into a bridge and then a culvert and ended up five feet on a hillside. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt failed to operate properly. The contact sustained injuries to the back, shoulder, neck, back of the head, sciatic nerve, and right hand. The contact's boyfriend sustained injuries to the face, neck, and right rib area. Both occupants were taken to the hospital for medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was left at the scene for a few days and was eventually towed to a body shop where it was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,519.
