I traded off a 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 5.9 diesel with 248,000 miles for a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 6.7 diesel with 123,000 miles which may have been a mistake. I did not buy the extended warranty with the vehicle because I have found that those usually are more trouble than they are worth. The old truck ran perfectly with no problems for the 10 years that I was the owner, but the new one continues to show issues with the computer and electrical system. It will shut down for no reason at all, when ever it feels like it and usually at the most inopportune times. Yesterday it was while entering the freeway at 70 miles per hour trying to get in front of a big rig that was barreling down on me. When it shuts down, it is just like I turn the key off.....the dash goes blank and the engine quits, I loose all power steering, power brakes, lights etc. In the 3 weeks I have owned it the problem has happened 4 times, most of the time when I am close to home or at least on the road to my house, yesterday was the first time in major traffic. Not a very good feeling. I contacted the Dodge dealer I bought it from and first they are too busy to deal with it since I did not purchase the extended warranty with it and second they will have to keep it for a long time to try and duplicate the problem. I have checked the error codes and there is nothing that shows anything. It will always start right back up after I come to a complete stop, turn the key off and then back on again. Anyone else dealt with this issue in the past and if so, what did you do to fix it?
