This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Problem System: Antilock Brake System. ABS hydraulic control unit and ABS module were replaces due to dash warning lights "service antilock brake system." After aprox one year, the warning lights have started coming on intermittently. Sometimes the warning will activate and be consistent, and other times (usually in warmer, dry weather) the warning may occur once and go away for days or weeks. Sometimes it is constant for days. I paid over $1200 for my first repair and just received a similar quote to do it again. I know there have been many complaints about the RAM 2017 - 2018 ABS systems and I feel it's time the NHTSA pursue RAM and put some pressure on them to do something about this.
In August 2021 ABS brake light is on and on 8-26-2021 I paid Approximately $1000 to have the master cylinder replaced to correct the problem. In early 2023 the problem returned intermittently. I made appointment with Goofy's brake service. When I took the truck to Goofy's appointment they determined that the problem required a Dealer service department. Made appointment with Dealer for 09/29/23. Mileage was 82,851. Dealer determined that I needed the master cylinder replaced again. Problem was that they could not obtain the necessary repair part as the part was being redesigned due to frequent failure. I was not going to be covered by warrant as it was now over 2 years since the know defect master cylinder had been replaced. They were going to call me when the newly designed part was avail. Coat was going to be around $1000 again. It is now 6-25-2024. problem is still intermittent; Dealer has never called me for part replacement. Vehicle has over 88,000 mile now. When this error message occurs, I cannot use Cruise control. I am forced to drive with a known braking problem, and I must pay to replace part I have already paid to have replaced. If and when the improved part becomes available.
Truck is flashing on and off the ABS light flashes on and off constantly turning off cruise control. Found code for problem C0020-01 ABS pump motor control - general electrical failure. This poses a danger when driving for ABS system to sporadically fail while driving.
Brake error and traction control error on dash. It is available for inspection. Not sure if it is safe but we have not options. This started several years ago. We have looked at ordering parts and tried to make appointment at dealer but parts were out of stock. We have not ever taken it in to the dealer as this happened literally 2 weeks after our warranty expired. No one has inspected it. There were not any other warnings prior and the vehicle seems to function but it is annoying driving it as the warning goes off all the time. I know they recently recalled newer Dodge Rams for this same type of issue but seem to be refusing to recall the older models for those of us that have been waiting and hoping nothing safety wise happens. It is a well knows issue and there are class action suits in other states.
The -??service antilock brake system-?? code is appearing for the 4th time. I only have 64k miles on this truck. The CDJR dealer in Angleton, Tx has replaced the module and pump 3 times. Now it-??s back. I-??m sure it-??ll all need replacing, again.

Information screen on vehicle said "Service Anti Lock Braking System" the traction control and abs light come on and go out. The brakes seem to work fine. This started about May 20th of 2024 one time. This now June 16 2024 and it is happening very frequently. I have read that this is a common problem with this year and model truck. The vehicle hasn't been inspected at this date of writing.
ABS lights come on randomly and my cruise control and ABS fail while they are on. Dodge will not sell me the part to fix the issue even though it-??s been a well known issue and even has a class action lawsuit filed. Part number they are regulating is 68347098AB. This is a major safe concern as my truck slid off the road this winter when this happened.
Continue to get Service ABS and Service Electronic Braking System warning lights. ABS does not work when warning lights are on returns to normal when warning is off. no other detected issues with the braking system. It is displaying code: C0020-01
My ABS, traction control lights come on and off also loose the ability to use cruise control and electronic breaking system while pulling my trailers. This has been brought to the dealership and fixed once already and it only lasted long enough for the 1 year warranty to expire and it has started doing the same thing again. Also loose my trailer lights when this happens...
Anti-lock Brake System Hydraulic control unit - ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure. C006A54 ABS no longer active, no 4x4 for snow travel, no cruise control. Failure occurred before 40,000 miles Failure is intermittent and affected by bumpy road conditions. These symptoms are consistent with the well known stuck motor brush issues. Ram does not sell a replacement motor, only the entire HCU
Abs light comes on and disables the cruise controls. Says abs brake failure and I have researched this and found it is a common problem. 6 speed Transmission is turning on check engine light and says gear 5 and gear 6 has improper ratio. Shifts hard into gear5 and won't downshift for passing gear.
ABS module failure. Replaced and failed again at about 19 months. Replaced again and failed at about 20 months. Review of chat lines shows numerous owners complaining about same problem. I just can-??t keep replacing the ABS module every 1 to 2 years.
the truck experience issues such as the loss of anti-lock braking, cruise control, and traction control. These missing features and systems significantly compromise the control and handling of the Ram trucks, particularly in adverse weather conditions like wet or snowy roads, where braking becomes more challenging. ABS service light / traction control light / no cruise control flash ON this has been an issue for almost a year truck has 68k now
C0020-01 code, ABS control pump and electrical failure. This is second time since purchasing this truck new in 2017 that this has occurred. Parts are now on national back order with Ram taking no responsibility on covering costs of replacemenf on an item that shouldn-??t be failing multiple times in the life of a vehicle. This is an ongoing problem with MANY Ram owners.
Intermittent -??service ABS system-?? light on dash resulting in loss of ABS, cruise control, park-sense, and 4x4. No amount of troubleshooting from a reputable diesel mechanic has been able to fix this. From what I have read online this is a very common issue and the truck likely needs an HCU/ABS module
