The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. While driving 55 mph and hauling a trailer, the tailgate latch detached without warning. The vehicle was taken to brewbaker Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram of prattville (2209 cobbs Ford rd, prattville, al 36066, (334) 491-0701) where it was diagnosed that the tailgate latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Tailgate lock actuator defect. Tailgate falls randomly while truck in motion when vehicle locks doors once in motion automatically. The actuator over rotates and unlocks tailgate allowing it to drop. Also when using key fob to lock doors actuator over rotates causing tailgate unlock and allows it to fall.
