The RAM 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel had a recall on the EGR cooler and was performed on my truck. Yet just a few miles before end of the standard warranty the EGR cooler goes bad. In the recall it states "Remedy is currently under development. " Obviously they found no remedy and yet with all the problems of this EcoDiesel, RAM feels it's okay to continue to sell this engine. Also, every dealer I take it to be serviced I am told that "it never surprises them when they see an EcoDiesel with a problem" or "we prefer not to order any trucks with this engine to sell".
I love my truck except for this engine and its reliability problems. I can say that there is no other full-size truck that gets better fuel mileage, and the engine has a lot of power so it's a real shame. The problem is reliability and cost of maintenance is far more than a real diesel like a Cummins.
