- Summary
- RETAINER, Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Oil leak from rear engine seal retainer or windage tray/gasket Check for other sources of leaks using dye such as gallery plugs, camshaft cup plug at rear of engine, rear of engine valley for possible MDS solenoid, VVT solenoid, block porosity or transmission leaks. If another source of the leak was identified, proceed with the appropriate repairs. Engineering is looking for assistance in determining root cause and a corrective action on crankshaft rear oil seals and windage tray/gaskets. For concerns related to rear crankshaft seal oil leaks and windage tray gaskets, please send an email to brenton.swank@fcagroup.com. Include the VIN, mileage, and any photos identifying where the leak is coming from using dye, such as: 1. Leak between rear seal and crankshaft (seal rolled during installation) 2. Leak between outer diameter of rear seal and retainer 3. Leak between rear seal retainer and engine block (Please record the 5 retainer bolts residual torque in tightening direction) 4. Leak between rear seal retainer and windage tray/gasket (Please record the oil pan bolts residual torque in tightening direction) If the source of the leak cannot be identified, please contact Brenton Swank at (248) 804-9386 or Brenton.Swank@FCAGroup.com If no response in 15 minutes, proceed with repair.
