The steering "locks" in the 11 o'clock position no matter what the speed is. I bought this truck used in July 2021 and didn't notice a problem on the test drive. I hardly drove the truck for the next 3 months and I noticed the problem on and off at different times. I called the dealer and the warranty had expired as did the manufactures warranty. This is a serious issue that is bad enough that my wife is scared to drive the truck. I am concerned about driving it on the highway, especially going down an incline that curves left.

While making slight right turn about 10 to 11 o'clock steering wheel is locking up and have to force steering wheel back to center. I have noticed it on all different road surfaces and different speeds even as high as 80 mph. I have had the vehicle into Liberty Dodge and they say they can't find a problem and Dodge is not aware of any issues. Afraid to drive in icy snowy conditions and that it may cause an accident, forcing the steering back to center because it seems to make the vehicle jerk when making the correction. This has been an issue ever since I purchased the vehicle, Dodge dealership wants me to put more mileage on the vehicle to see if it will correct itself. As of October 17th, the issue has not gotten any better at 2K miles on the truck. Not safe and Dodge does not want to acknowledge that there is an issue.

Bought a new 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie from Don K in Whitefish Montana. Before I got home I was almost in a crash, as the steering wheel stuck numerous times in the 11 o'clock position after coming out of left hand turns. Brought it back to the dealer who said problem was fixed. Picked it up 3 days ago and before I got home the same problem was happening again. I was on windy roads in the mountains with oncoming traffic. It was raining and foggy. I almost crashed a couple times and was very shaken.

I had to pull over and let my husband switch vehicles with me and drive. The dealer must have known about the problem, as I have a copy of a service bulletin sent to them over a year ago about this make and model having this specific problem. I am afraid to drive the truck again. I am negotiating with the dealership to take the vehicle back but they are not willing to help me. I will have to hire counsel I guess. If I get a favorable result from Don K in Whitefish I will post it. This is the third truck we have purchased from them.

I'll be taking it to the dealer this week. It is obvious that there is something amiss in Ram's rack and pinion assemblies. This problem could definitely result in the death or injury of the occupants of the vehicle or the occupant's of other vehicles. I find references on Ram forums and this site about this issue as far back as fall of 2018, the same as my original problem. It makes life very interesting on the mountain Interstates around Chattanooga, TN. Luckily I live in central Florida and don't have to contend with that very often. I am highly surprised that Ram hasn't found an answer for this problem.

From the day I took the truck home, I noticed that the steering seemed to "stick" when I turned. I went back to the dealership and they didn't notice anything - but they only took it around the block and told me it was because of the new tires gripping the road...right. Over time I started noticing that it was mainly when I was steering to the left at 40-55 MPH at about the 10-11 o'clock position. A good example of this situation is when I'm on a fly-over ramp intersection between two highways.

It almost feels like the power steering quits at that point. Like maybe it's speed-sensitive assist.

I took it in for a recall, in the spring of 2019, on the steering ("grounding strap" or something like that) but that did not fix the issue. When I took it for my last oil change in November 2019, I mentioned it to the service folks and no one knew anything about an issue like that. For me, it's something that I've become used to. For my wife, it scares the hell out of her when she's driving.

I have another oil change due in a couple of months and I'm going to ask that they take it for a test drive on the highway - and I have a specific location in mind that they can try.

I have yet to see or hear of a fix for this issue, even though I know I'm not the only one.

When driving my new Ram through the mountains in British Columbia, each time I had to turn a left turn the steering wheel started to hang up at or around the 11 o’clock position. Each time I had to jerk the steering wheel back to the right to keep the truck from going off the road. The first time I took this to the dealer at 3000 km the dealer was unable to replicate the issue now after 13,000 km I’m back at the dealer because the problem is worse and downright dangerous. The issue starts after about 30 minutes of driving and happens from 50 km/h up to 130 km/h. This truck does have the lane since option however it is not being engaged when this happens. Actually having this option turned on is downright scary when turning left on the highway. Let’s see what the dealer says. The technician at the dealer has now kept the vehicle overnight to try to replicate the problem. Let’s see if there’s time they can figure it out

Update from Aug 17, 2019: Dealer ordered a new rack and pinion. Currently on back order

When the vehicle is at highway speed and going into left-hand corners, the steering wheel sticks if you go past the ten o'clock position. It happens only after driving at highway speeds for a period of time like 45 minutes or more. It does not happen on right turns, the wheel comes back, but intermittently and I just got this new truck has less than 600 miles on it, steering is stiff when coming out of a left turn. Very reluctant to come back to zero almost as if there is a dead spot in the steering rack itself, I almost lost control of my truck. I have also taken my truck to be seen at the Dodge place where I brought it and they can't find anything wrong with it. I traded in my 2014 1500 Ram, i kind of wish I didn't now because I don't feel safe in this 2019 RAM 1500 TRADESMAN CREW CAB 4X4. This is very serious matter.

Update from Sep 10, 2019: I had took my Truck two different Dodge Dealership and both couldn't recreated the steering problem I am having and it is getting unsafe to drive and now I feel it everyday when I go home making that left turn with the curves of the highway and with all these complaint and I see some people went 4 times to the dealership and this should ne a recall on this steering issue I am not happy with this New 2019 Ram 1500 Truck

Update from Oct 31, 2019: I took my Truck to Capital Chrysler Jeep Dodge 200 Waterfield Ridge Place Garner, NC 27520 Dealer ordered a new rack and pinion

They have fix my steering problem by replacing the new rack and pinion Fixed my problem and it's been over two months now

This makes the 5th issue with the new truck since purchasing 3 months ago. I have two current issues one, is the air bags keep depleting on the front end over night. The second and more concerning is the steering wheel wants to hang in the 11 o'clock position when traveling at highway speeds 55mph+ during extended left hand turns driving in the NC mountains. I have to jerk the wheel a bit to get it out of that position. Lane assist was off the first time it happened. it happens whether in lane assist mode or not. Truck has been at dealership over a week and they cannot experience the same problem, everyone is scratching their heads and say it's fine since they inspected all the components and put miles on the truck and could not replicate the problem. Easy to say when its not your life on the line. I've never owned a vehicle that had this many problems but the steering issue has me concerned about me and my family's safety. I've owned two other Ram trucks in the past and had great experience with them. I've tried to work with FCA but keep missing their calls and can never talk to them when I call back. I'm researching the lemon laws now and dread going through that ordeal.
