- Transimission Problems - This may help with repairs. Generally, there have been few repairs noted; the eight-speed was well tested by luxury automakers before Chrysler became the first mainstream company to use it. Some reported rough shifting after work was done on their car, which may indicate a missed step in the repair: skipping the “PROXI alignment,†which updates information in all the car’s systems. Even a TCM update may require PROXI alignment. A technician wrote, “PROXI alignment is required when a module is replaced, or, in this case, the transmission bangs into gear something fierce. It does make a big difference.†One telltale (though it may not always appear) is a blinking odometer

The first indicator something was wrong with my six year old 2016 RAM 1500 4Dr Hemi 5.7 with only 44,635 miles, was having difficulty steering home from work. Therefore, I originally thought something was wrong with the power steering. I checked all my tires, and put air in the front left, which seemed to decrease the level of "hardness" trying to drive & turn my truck. Very shortly after that, (a week at most?), I began having difficulty putting the truck in and out of gear. For example, I was at a Walgreens drive-thru to pick up medication. I drove up to the window and put the truck in park. I completed the transaction at the drive-thru and was unable to put my truck into gear/drive. After 10 minutes of frustration with cars starting to pile up behind me, I turned the truck off. My buddy sitting in the passenger seat, got out to advise the drivers behind me that I was having car problems. I waited about 5 more minutes, started the truck back up, and was then able to put it into gear, and drive home.
I immediately made an appointment with my local dealership Schumacher Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, etc. on Federal Highway in Delray Beach, FL. They took it in and said nothing appeared or showed up wrong (computer hook up?) and as I attempted to drive it out of the lot, the truck stopped, I could not put it in gear, and the truck now was inoperable. After a lot of research, talking to locals, dealership folks, etc. it was explained that it was the ABS module which was not available to replace but was coming up for review mid March 2024. I had dropped off my truck in January 2024. I was given someone to handle communications with me and the truck but come to find out he was fired and many individuals at the dealership didn't even know who he was (…frustrating at best!). My wife did some online research and was able to get me contact information with Ram. My first case manager, sounding hopeful at first, continued to email me "no eta," and "TBD." I finally spoke with another case manager who at least offered three paid-for times so I can rent a U-Haul van or pick-up as I use my truck strictly for work purposes for my own home maintenance ("handyman type work") & property management business. I heavily rely on my truck for my business and consequently, my "bread & butter." Anyway, almost FOUR months later and my truck is sitting right where it rolled, inoperable, sitting in the same spot at the dealership. Oh, and at one point, one of the dealership's manager's called me and told me he would charge me $35 per day until I towed it or moved it out of their property. I attempted again to drive it home, and as one older employee told the manager, the truck is not going anywhere as "it is inoperable."
My wife has had it as I am using her Camaro to try and continue to work and take care of my clients. We live pay check to pay check. I have completely ruined her Camaro with my equipment and paint, caulk, scratches, etc., and I have no idea if I will ever get my truck back. There is no new information that I am aware of regarding just the REVIEW with no news of a recall or who even will manufacture this part, the ABS module, if that indeed is the correct part that my truck needs to solve it's problems. I feel that we need to be compensated for the labor, part, diminished value on my wife's barely used Camaro and for the extra work I need to do trying to work to pay bills and eat without my truck. How are other people continuing to work without their RAM 1500 truck, and other makes and models also allegedly having the same problem from the same ineffective module. My wife is thinking of calling a south Florida news station, WPTV. Any other suggestions?
