This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.

Truck caught fire while driving on highway. No warning signs on dash. Started to slow down then smoke started coming from front of hood as if overheating. I pulled over to emergency lane, turned car off, then popping sound causing truck to go into flames and popping with big explosion and burning rapidly. I was able to get out because I had door already cracked open and ran away from vehicle.
The left hand controls on the steering have quit working. The is no way to reset the oil change error after changing the oil. You can not use any of the left hand controls.
After having the required fca emission update, the truck will hesitate when pulling into traffic or attempting to climb a hill until fully warmed up. Pressing the accelerator to the floor does nothing for several seconds, then the truck accelerates dramatically. This nothing/everything, is dangerous to the driver and passengers of the truck as they may be struck by another vehicle that they are not able to get out of the way of. The truck is dangerous to other highway users as the nothing/everything throttle may cause a loss of control of the truck. This is a drastic change in the driving characteristics of this truck from the prior to flash settings. Apparently dealers can not return the vehicle to it's previous settings, making them liable for the safety of the trucks driver and passengers. The epa lawsuit against fca has put numerous highway users ar risk!
81,000 miles on a eco diesel. On trip. Cruise set at 75mph on I20 basically going straight. A warning light came on, something like 'electronic throttle.' It did not stay on long. Immediately started loosing power but engine still running but not responsive. Finally came to a halt and engine died. Electricity still working as put on emergency flashers. Started calling Ram roadside assistance. My wife said she smelled something. About maybe 30 seconds later we could smell something on fire. Seconds later smoke billowing from beneath hood. We bailed out. Good samaritan stopped within a few minutes with fire extinguisher. He and I popped hood and flames are shooting about 18' along back of engine compartment. We got fire out but was still smoldering. Had already called 911. About 5-10 min later rural fire department arrived and doused engine with water as it was still 'hot' and we were on shoulder of highway beside large area of dry grass. Firefighters seemed to think it was electrical in nature. Came home and began to research 1500 Ram ecodiesels catching fire. Seems there have been a number of instances and also seeing fca is not acknowledging a potential problem. This is my work vehicle for my small business so presently incapacitated. Thank you!
I can not let my window up on the driver side. When I contacted the dealer which is milton rueben they advised me that this is a common problem but it's not a recall. If one or more vehicles are having this problem then this is a manufacture's issue and should be a recall issued.

I was driving my truck down the highway I stopped at a stoplight my truck stalled I saw smoke I popped the latch in the engine was on fire I was at a four way intersection waiting for my light to turn green wca ex news in burlington Vermont caught the whole thing on film and they aired it that afternoon October 22, 2019 on the new news https://youtu.be/of0znw1H3rc
The Ram vehicle caught on fire driving down the road. It burned fast I am not aware of the cause. I made a complaint to Fiat when the fd informed me this was the fifth one he has put out in two week time frame. They and my insurance company had fire investigators come out ruled inconclusive. I have seen many Ram trucks catch on fire since then. The truck was on a two way hwy back roads in motion when smoke was noticed and then just engulfed in flames.
Following recieving the ECU update for the aem recall due to emissions issues with the vehicle. The vehicle lags considerably when driving down the road. So far the manufacturer is saying that it has to do with a cold vehicle, however, I have had this happen when the vehicle was up to operating temperatures while unload and while towing. This lag when towing has caused my truck and trailer combination to start to go backwards down a hill that my house resides on. After the truck lags when the power kicks in it does not ease in on the power it just jumps straight in nearly causing the tires to spin. So far the only way around this that I have found is to manually control the transmission shifts when starting out slow on hills. I am not the only one experiencing this issue please see https://www.tfltruck.com/2019/08/Ram-1500-ecodiesel-update-email/ for more information.
After completing the emissions recall on the eco diesel a significant lag in acceleration has occurred. This lag impacts ability to keep with the flow of traffic when merging etc. This is a safety hazard as it is unpredictable and driver cannot determine acceleration by simply pressing the pedal down - sometimes with a 5-10 second delay in response to accelerate. This can occur from a stop, and merging onto a highway, from a stop light and making a uturn in the authorized areas, when merging onto a freeway ramp.
I am writing this for my elderly father. He has a 2015 Ram 1500 diesel pick up truck that falls under the eco diesel settlement (class action lawsuit). My dad had the approved emissions modification (aem) that was required to update the emissions control software on May 28, 2019. After the aem completed by the dealer, the truck had throttle issues. When my dad pushed the pedal to accelerate, the vehicle would significantly lag to the point of not accelerating. This is a **continuous** and dangerous condition that was caused by the factory supplied software update. My dad made a complaint to the dealer three hours after the aem was updated on 5/28/19. He also complained to the dealer on June 6, 7, 8 2019 and on many other occasions. They tell him it could take 6 months to fix this dangerous condition. The factory "fix" has now created a dangerous condition. The dealer either can't or won't fix it. Many people have apparently complained to the dealer to where the dealer is now advising vehicle owners to not install the factory aem "fix". the dealer tells my dad that factory/corporate is working on a fix.
The aem recall was completed and the truck has a horrible turbo lag, which almost caused me to be in an accident twice within 15 minutes of picking it up. Dealership will not look at it and this is an unsafe vehicle for road use.
Received a malfunction indicator light for a problem in the emissions system while driving on the highway. Invoice report shows plastic from intake manifold melting and getting into the exhaust system. Also, ecodiesel aem update V08 has caused pedal lag, making it extremely difficult to accelerate.
Interrion of truck fills up with water because third brake light, manifold bolts and gaskets need replaced due to some issue. Tapping noise from engine compartment.
After the V08 recall my mpg went from the 27 to 31 to 19 to 21 mpg the recall was not supposed the changed the mileage that much... and the some time it slow to the start from a stop
Fca's approved emissions modification software was installed in my truck and now it has lost its power and there is a long turbo gap which is dangerous when trying to merge into traffic. When the engine is cold the truck will hardly take off from a stop sign. I have registered a complaint with Ram and the dealership. The dealership told me that is a common complaint about the update and Ram has not contacted me with any information.
After emissions update truck has loss of power when merging in traffic and sometimes when passing someone truck feels like a shifting high and low rapidly.I took to the dealer they said they cant find any codes and was told it has to be the new software from Dodge and they cant do anything about that.so far I had 2 close calls when merging into traffic and check engine light goes on sometimes and im using more fuel.truck was running great before the emissions update
After the fca emissions update my trucks performance has changed so much as to become a danger to me and my family. The truck will not go to get in traffic and I fear being T-boned by another vehicle. When you go to execrate the truck is sluggish and is very slow to go.
