However, due to engine light on because of this problem, I am unable to get vehicle through state emissions test. Even after topping off the tank, the light stays on all the time. The check engine light and fuel light went on at 63,000 miles!! The fuel gauge shot straight to E and it doesn't tell you range, either, just LOW FUEL. I had other trucks that the fuel pump/sensor didn't go out till 130k+. How is this not under any type of a recall? Can you just replace it by yourself? They were gonna charge me $780 to replace it.
This is a known component defect that should be escalated to a RECALL; it affects the vehicles emission system as well and generates codes for vapor sensor and emissions leaks/gas cap faults. It renders the fuel level gauge INOPERABLE while operating the vehicle.
The truck was back to the dealer several times due to the emissions/vapor leak errors and the ultimate root cause was the FUEL SENSOR which requires replacement of the ENTIRE FUEL PUMP.
Fuel sensor failed. Found on the net that other owners had the same problem. I cannot use the eco mode with the warning on, also do not have an analog gas gauge that works. FCA (Fiat/Chrysler) reuses to repair or issue a recall. Have to remove the fuel tank to fix, so it is expensive.
Fell in love with this truck, still love it.. but getting service stinks. Always no appointment opening at the dealerships but I feel this problem needs to be on recall list. Either you have to replace the whole fuel pump or replace the fuel sending unit!

Check engine light came on with the dash cluster saying fuel sensor fail, but the gauge would come back and drop off every now and again then come back on when I fill it up full, but once I put a 100 miles on it "Fuel Sensor FAIL".
