The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. While driving at an unknown speed, smoke and flames appeared from the engine compartment. A police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. The flames were extinguished and the vehicle was towed to capitol Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (3201 Missouri blvd, jefferson city, mo 65109, (573) 893-5000) where it was diagnosed that the exhaust gas recirculation system failed, and the wiring harness and intake and exhaust manifolds needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 74,000.

My truck has started running rough without any power and noticing a tickingkocking noise within the past week so I started looking into it as I've always changed my oil between 5-10K full synthetic 5W20 and always ran good fuel at least 89-93 bc I have 142K on it. I've noticed the ticking noise around 75 and thought maybe slight exhaust leak from the welds but as I start reading on internet it's been a problem with Chrysler on all these hemi engines for quite a few years now and I think it's bs that I'm having to pay to fix something that obviously been a problem for vehicles with well under the mileage I have as well. The wife has a Chevy with over 200K that rubs like a top and she never changed the oil before we got together, in fact it was sludge when I did the first oil change and it doesn't tick nock or hesitate one bit. I hope someone will step up and help ppl out with their mistakes and make it right bc I'm out of a vehicle I still owe on and can't even get to work bc guess what I drive for work. Bummer I know but not if Y'all would fix problems when the arise!!!!
5.7L hemi lift/can failure!!!!! I am a Ram owner and have had some trouble with my 2014 Ram 1500 at around 135,000 miles my engine started to tap in a rithum and was getting louder by the day. Did a little research and found that a lot of folks are having a problem with lifter collapsing and destroying the cam. Took my truck to the dealer and was told exactly what I had read about a lot of folks saying they had the same issue with there hemi. Not only in the Ram models but Jeep Grand Cherokee models and challengers as well equipped with the hemi engine as well. This repair cost roughly $3500 or more to have repaired. And Chrysler should help cover the cost on repairs. I am very upset with Chrysler products and at this time may never own another Chrysler product.
Ram started dying in December 2017 while driving at hwy speed. All electric power remained, no check engine light illuminated. On or about 1 January 2018, engine shut down at highway speed and check engine light illuminated. That day, the engine surged 2 times without dying. Dealer verified a U1424 trouble code recorded 3 times. Dealer had the Ram for about 1 week and could not make it duplicate, but indicated they were going to change the crankshaft senor. They did not do the repair. Dealer cleared the code and I retrieved it. The Ram continued to die, but has not presented a trouble code. I filed a complaint with Dodge/Ram (case#33123585) to which they recently determined that until the Ram cannot move under its own power, there is nothing they can do, despite the serious safety issue. Since December, the Ram has now died approximately 7 times and surged more times than I remember. The first time I was pulled into the ditch as I tried to get off the highway. 3 times, I've narrowly missed being rear-ended after the Ram died twice while navigating through a traffic light and once while turning at an intersection. This morning it again died as I was slowing down to navigate a traffic light. I didn't realize it died until I tried to accelerate. By that time, I barely had enough momentum to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle behind me had to slam on their brakes and swerve to keep from rear-ending me. That individual confronted me in a very hostile manner, but I diffused the situation when I explained what had happened. The attitude of Dodge/Ram is very concerning as their "policy" outweighs the safety of me, my family and others on the road. There are many complaints about this very issue, but Ram states they've never dealt with the issue. I have photos on my cellphone of the instrument panel when the Ram dies. I don't have access to the communications with Ram

Major oil leak started at just under 100K miles on the truck. Took it to the dealership after searching online for known issues, witch I found one on Chrysler 3.6 motors year model 2014 witch was oilcooler/housing cracking. This is the engine my truck has as well. After the dealership checked the truck over this was the exact issue with the truck. The oil leak is located on top of the engine between the intake manifold and engine block and runs down back of engine to bottom of truck. With the amount of issues I have been able to find in a matter of minutes of searching and after being told that that part had been redesigned by the dealership I think this issue should be looked into.
On 11/22/17 at around 5pm driving East bound on I-76 in Pennsylvania our 2014 Ram 1500 ecodiesel engine caught on fire. As I tried to stop I realized I had no brakes. We slowed to a stop as we started up a hill, I put it in park and we all got out just in time. A certified Chrysler mechanic had just 2 days earlier finished installing a new engine. Both the dealership & Chrysler have denied all ownership and no root cause evaluation has been completed. I believe a fuel line failed due to faulty workmanship, but without a third party independent investigation I guess we will never know and some other customer may experience the same thing.
While driving on highway check engine light came on. Smelled burning, another car pulled along side and yelled "you are on fire" after stopping the truck I was able to extinguish the flames under the engine by applying dry powder fire extingisher into the open hood. Later investigation by a chrylser hired investigator indicated the starter cable short circuited to a sharp bracket attached to the frame causing the electrical harness to catch fire. In my opinion chrylser is dragging their feet in authorizing a warranty repair
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the engine entered into braking mode and caused the vehicle to rapidly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (lithia Chrysler Dodge Ram Fiat of spokane, 10701 North newport highway spokane, wa 99218, phone (509) 381-7460) several times for the failure, but the diagnostic could not render a failure code. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was performing normally. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000...updated 10/18/17 the consumer stated the failure occurs while on steep hills and/or in 2nd gear. The vehicle accelerated significantly without command. Updated 10/25/2017
My Ram 1500 will H the 5.7 hemingway V8 ha an exaust leak at the exaust manifold apparently due to a broken manifold mounting bolt. It makes a ticking noise when the engine is cold and then subsides when warmed up. I was concerned that carbon monoxide may be taken in by the cabin ventilation system and expose the occupants to this gas. Research on the internet reveals many peopl have had this problem and have been told by Ram dealers that a safety recall would be force hcomming.
Starting at about 30K the check engine light came on and the error code read PO456 (small evap leak), Dodge dealer (peterson ) stated that the computer was so sensitive that they (the dealer) could not detect such a small leak.. so I was told they changed out some common items that had known issues and it should be fix.. at about 37K same exact issue same exact error code same exact response from the dealer.. but this time I was told they just replaced the whole evap system and to make sure I don't overfill the fuel tank.... now at 54K same exact issue same error PO456..but now a much more noticeable heavy 'fuel' smell in the cab ' and I've been very careful not to 'overfill' the fuel tank'.best part dealer is saying sorry out of warranty.. huh, that's convenient.
This vehicle will stall when coming to a complete stop from time to time. There is no pattern when it happens. We own a second 2014 Ram that does the same!!!
This vehicle will stall when coming to a complete stop from time to time. There is no pattern when it happens. Very dangerous!!!!!! this is one of two 2014 Ram 1500 we have that does this.
Was driving truck in an empty lot after a snow storm with lots of ice. Had traction control off and truck fishtailed around a corner and engine stalled. Lights in interior were on and dash advised to shift into park to start. No knocking or strange noises prior, no check engine light after or before. Rpms were below 3000 when engine stalled. After stall put truck into park and started up right away. Tank was 3/4 full. Only problem I have had with the truck but it is very serious problem that should be addressed.
My truck has an exhaust leak that allows raw diesel fumes to be drawn into the vehicle's HVAC system. When the truck is stationary and the engine is idling, diesel exhaust fumes can be easily detected in the cab of the truck. Because this truck is equipped with scr, def, and dpf systems, you should never be able to smell raw diesel exhaust when the engine is running. However, when the truck is stationary, you can smell raw diesel exhaust in the cab and when standing outside the truck. I believe the leak is coming from the exhaust elbow, just down stream from the turbo assembly. This is a known weak point in the exhaust system as many Ram ecodiesel owners have experienced the same leak and symptoms.
