problem #2

1500

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The digital display shows that the truck is in REVERSE, the gear shift shows the truck is in PARK! The truck will not do ANYTHING!!!!!! It will have to be towed to dealer for "WHATEVER" repair! will update as info is available.

Update from Jan 6, 2016: The truck was TOWED to the dealer. The tow truck driver was actually the one to (fix) the problem. We had it towed to the dealer to attempt to find out WHY the gear shift got stuck in the first place. The mechanic at the Chrysler dealer told us "they found dirt and rocks keeping linkage on transmission from moving to park position, reset light on dash." CHARGED US $80.00!!!! THIS IS A DAMN 4 WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK!!!!!! The truck is used on the highway except for approximately 1.5 miles (our driveway) this is HARD PACKED dirt and gravel! What the hell is a 4 wheel drive V-8 HEMI USED FOR???? This is the STUPIDEST DAMN THING I HAVE EVER HEARD OF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dodge SHOULD GET THEIR ASS IN GEAR and FIX THE FREAKING PROBLEM!!! (Maybe the have dirt and gravel in their linkage that is preventing them from GETTING THEIR ASS IN GEAR!!!! WHO THE HELL engineers this stupid sh*t??????

1500 SLT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,004 miles

Three times now since buying my 2013 Ram 1500 with Pentastar engine in December 2012 I have been unable to put the transmission into park and remove the key. The dealer says they cannot help me. It sounds ridiculous to say that "When it snows I can’t drive my full size Ram 1500 that should be fully capable in all weather conditions". As I understand it when driving in snow or slush snow is thrown at the transmission, this results in snow packing around the shift linkage. The result is very clear, you can’t put your truck in park and remove the key. If you don’t have the equipment or ability to crawl under your truck and melt the snow then the only other choice is to sit there with the engine running until the snow melts. Unfortunately if you drive through mud, well mud does not melt.

Update from Mar 25, 2013: I have received email back from Ram below, if I understand the reply correctly it says a poor design in NOT Ram's problem, it's now the problem of whomever bought the truck. Apparently I picked the wrong brand. Of course everything is fine with the truck as long as I don't drive it in winter or through some mud. The number one reason I choose Ram is because of tough reliability, now I see that was a mistake.

Thank you for contacting the Ram Customer Assistance Center in regards to your 2013 1500.

I am sorry to learn of the concerns raised regarding your transmission and appreciate the time taken to share your concerns with us.

After further review of this matter, the characteristic you describe is a function of your vehicle's design and there is nothing that can be done to fix the condition. It is not a defect in materials, workmanship, manufacturing or factory preparation and is, therefore, not covered under the new-vehicle limited warranty.

Unfortunately this information is the extent we are able to supply. If you disagree or wish to seek a secondary opinion, utilizing a different Dealership for further diagnosis may be of benefit.

A dealership locator can be found on the brand web site in the "Find a Dealer" field of the Ram - http://www.ramtrucks.com home page.

Thanks again for your email

Sincerely,

Jeff
