Truck has less than 82k miles and has a lifter / cam problem. Apparently, this is a common issue and I have read numerous reports about this. I never thought a vehicle with less than 100k miles would come close to this level of failure.. I'm very upset with the way this truck has let me down. I've been a Dodge fan for many years and this was my 3rd one (new) from a dealership.

1500 Express 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 128,000 miles

Squeak/chirp developed coming from engine compartment. Brought to dealer. Hydraulic lifter failed, damaged cam lobe. There were no preceding symptoms, no tick as is usually the case, just a squeak/chirp that developed a week prior. Full synthetic oil changes 5W20 done every 5K miles, almost all highway miles. FCA parts (lifter) backordered 1-2 months, but my dealer was able to locate needed parts from a 3rd party within a week. Covered via extended warranty with $100 ded.

Update from Dec 21, 2018: Update, engine now makes a loud tick at idle (noisy lifters) and a grinding noise for the first 5-10 sec after starting. Dealer says this is normal, but prior to repair, engine did not tick or make the grinding noise. Changed oil 1000 miles after repair to clean out any shavings from the new parts breaking in. I am aware of Hemi tick, but this sounds like a diesel, and I'm more concerned about the grinding noise at start-up.
