2013 Ram Big Horn. Great truck to-date. Synthetic oil; Burned plus fuel exclusively. 113500 all highway miles. 4-5 weeks ago started tapping from the motor. Was told it's probably leaking exhaust manifold... get it fixed at inspection. 5 days ago started skipping / missing and CIL came on. Code PO302. Took to shop... worn cam lobe. 13500 past the warranty expiration. Built to last? I think not. Very unimpressive... Sounds like this is a problem that is recurring over and over. My issue now? Fix it and get rid of it? Fix it and wait for the other side to fail? Replace the motor? On a truck that's less than 5 years old. Unimpressive.

Just purchased a used 2013 Dodge Ram Big Horn, had less than 24 hours and was on my way to work when truck started shuddering hard on take off from light. engine light then came on, on my way to work and had bad vibration and poor acceleration on accelerating from stop. Called dealership and dropped off was told No. 5 cylinder was misfiring, unsure as to why that day.

Just found out today that lifter on No. 5 cylinder was bad and had to replace cam and lifters and all gaskets. Was initially told that parts and labor would be covered for 2 years on repair then Service Manager calls me back and says no its covered under remaining powertrain warranty and until it expires, which is in like 2000 miles. Tried to complain my way into getting that extended and got no where said was binding by warranty agreement and is not covered under Wisconsin lemon law.

Did not help when Used Card Manager said he would have sold it wholesale due to having to put brakes and tires on the truck but since they showed it to me before it went on the lot he was comitted at that point, I do not think he was happy that they had to sink another $2500 into the truck now at their cost. I just hope the engine doesnt develop another problem near down the road due to this, anyone know if this issue has been related to causing others.

Factory command start will not work when temp is below -35. Go to the truck and find the check engine light is on. Bought a code reader to find out why the check engine light was on and to clear any codes. The first couple of times the code was PO300. Which is intermittent engine misfire. And on the fourth time the code PO306 came up. Which is the #6 cylinder misfire. Brought the truck down to the dealer in the spring and of course the dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. Command start works fine now. Will have to wait for my second winter with the truck to see if the problem returns.

I live up in Fairbanks, Alaska and this is the third time I have had the check engine light come on because the outside temperature has hit -40 below zero or colder this winter. This is rather irritating because it stays on until the outside temperature warms up AND the engine has experienced 3 separate re-starts. Because of this problem, my remote starter will not work (which I had put on after I purchased the truck to the tune of around $500, and YES, it IS a Mopar product).

The times I've called the local dealership where I purchased the vehicle to report the problem, I've been given the following excuses by various service department personnel as to the possible "causes" of the problem: 1) whenever vehicles that are parked in a garage are first pulled out in the morning and it's really cold outside, it "shocks" the vehicle's computer because temps of -40 and colder "don't compute or make sense to it" so it will make the check engine light come on; or 2) "Oh, it's just a glitch. It's no big deal. It will go off when it warms up."

Well, let me tell you..I ALSO happened to own a 2012 truck of the exact same make and model & it NEVER did this a single time last winter when our temps would regularly drop & stay below -40, for an extended period of time, A LOT. So far this winter, we've only had these kind of temps three times so far, and all three times, just like clockwork, my check engine light has come on. Perhaps this shouldn't (?) be such a "big deal" to me, but seeing how I paid an additional $500 to have a Mopar remote starter installed on my vehicle, for just such occasions, I think it should work, BUT...because the check engine light is "on" and in the active mode, it won't work. This presents a MAJOR problem to me, because my truck is not parked in a warm, cushy, heated garage (it's an outdoor truck...it "lives" outside 24/7/365), so when I need the use of my remote starter the VERY most, it will NOT WORK.

After the third time this has happened, I called the dealership to ask if I could have the remote starter removed AND my purchase price refunded, but they told me this could not be done because there's nothing wrong with the remote starter (no factory defect) as it IS working properly -- it will not start the engine if the check engine light is on for "safety purposes." I can understand that, but because there IS some unidentified problem with the "computer" that's inside of my truck (as well as in the trucks of several others in the area who also purchased 2013 Ram 1500's) regarding them not being able to "compute" outside temps of -40 and greater, the primary purpose and my utilization of my remote starter is rendered USELESS whenever I need it MOST!

Has anyone else living in cold weather climates experienced anything similar to what I am describing here? If so, I would like to hear from you, and if/when/how your issue was resolved. Thanks a bunch & keep warm!!!

1500 Crew cab 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 746 miles

After filling up truck noticed check engine light come on. Referred to manual for possible causes. Manual says it could be the gas cap not on correctly, checked cap and it was on tight.

Found out later remote start would not work. Truck would shut off after about 30 seconds.

Took in to dealer and they flashed the computer, this seem to solve the problem. This is not a good sign with only 1200 km on the truck.

The problem began 2 days after purchasing car. Went to the dealer twice and because of my work schedule could not leave it over night. Finally did and they replaced a fuel sensor. Drove it out of the dealership, a few hours later, back again. The vehicle has 1,381 miles and still the light will not go off. If this persists will contact an attorney to invoke the Louisiana Lemon Law for the 4th occurrence.

Car purchased and being serviced at Acadiana Dodge in Lafayette, Louisiana. Will update this report with VIN number once I get my truck back.
