Really bad rotten egg smell takes your breath away at times. Comes into the car through the vents or whenever you open the door at a stop. Contacted GM at 2000 miles, they said there had been several complaints and it seemed that it was disappearing around 4000-6000 miles. Got to 7000 miles and called again. They said some were going as much as 10,000 miles and to be patient, it would go away.
Well, I am at 15,000 and it is worse now than in the beginning. My patience is gone on the matter. They said it was not fixable and the only solution they could give was to buy back the vehicle and put me in an 2004 model, which they state does not have the problem. Only thing is I would have to come up with another $3000 as I would have to be penalized for the mileage I put on my vehicle of $2000 plus $1000 diference in price between '03 & '04 model, of which the cars are identical. They are unwilling to fix the problem, or buy back the car without costing me a bunch of money. I complained early and often, and don't feel I should pay the penalty. They are the ones that kept putting me off, telling me to drive it and it would go away.
In my last conversation with them, I said I was going to contact an attorney. The lady said go right ahead and hung up on me. I am also wondering if whatever is causing the smell may cause any effects on my family's health. The dealer I bought the car from told me in the beginning that they had several complaints from people that had bought them, so I know there are alot of them out there and wonder if anyone has ever gotten rid of the smell or gotten a better break from GM than I have.
I wonder also if the problem will cause anything to go bad prematurely, like the motor? They say they don't know what causes the smell, which I think is a lie, so who knows. Anyone with this problem needs to post it! Maybe they will start to get the picture that alot of buyers of their vehicle are VERY unhappy. They have definitely lost my future business because of their unwillingness to fix the problem.
