When I bought this car, it ran just fine. When I replaced the battery for the first time, the old battery had leaked and made a mess, so I took the car to a detail shop and had it steam cleaned. When it came out, it would hardly run. They told me to take it home and put it in the garage with a space heater and it would be fine. They told me "water had probably gotten in the distributor". Well, may thousands of dollars later, let me just say THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE A FRIGGEN DISTRIBUTOR! It has an "optispark", and that is a CLOSED system! Somewhere in this car there is a permanent electrical problem that all the scoping in the world, all the diagnostic in the world, all the changing of plugs, plug wires, computer, does not fix. Every time you wash the car and they do the undercarriage wash, it will make the engine run with a loping miss. Every time it sits in the rain, it will run with a loping miss. Every time you step on the gas during a GOOD day and try to get some acceleration out of the car, it will go into a flat spot. This little problem happened in 2000, and no matter who I've had work on the car, it has never been able to be fixed. I finally sold the car this year. I've never owned a vehicle that had more things go wrong with it. Transmission replaced TWICE, numerous replacement of fog lights, several replacements of electric window motors, water pump three times, condenser for AC, hydraulic lifts for the trunk, numerous motor mounts, plus all of the above. I will never buy another Pontiac as long as I live.
