I purchased this 2008 Pontiac Torrent in March of 2012, I have had it for three years now. I started noticing a problem with the door not unlocking with the key fob when it was a warm day or the sun was beating down on the drivers door. The issue has now escalated to the point that I have to use the key to open the drivers door and then reach over to unlock the passenger door if someone is riding with me. If more than one person, I have to put the back window down so that they can reach in and manually unlock the door. To lock the doors, I go to each door individually and lock them.

I have called the dealership and they told me that it is most likely the actuator and I would need to replace all four of them at a minimum of $250 each. Really? This car is only 7 years old and I have only 67,000 miles on it. I believe that there is a problem here that GM should look into and cover at there expense.

This started out with the door lock not working, which we put up with and then on to the window not operating. Got it back to the up position and then called a service dealer in town, took it in for an appointment to get it fixed. They took two hours, called us back to pick it the car up saying they had found the problem but would have to schedule another appointment to fix it and it would run between three and four hundred dollars plus shop parts.

I would not even have questioned this had they not, in checking it out, left the window down four inches. This totally pissed me off so on the way home I picked up necessary wire and butt splices and proceeded to repair this myself. (I am an electrician by trade) The wiring harness to the door was so brittle that it broke apart in the middle of the flexible wire way, those left intact were showing signs of breaking very shortly. So I cut these all at the same point and proceeded to rewire the whole system and ,may add, that I succeeded in replacing every wire and have all the components operating like new.

BUT I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SITUATION AS WITH THESE WIRE'S BROKEN OFF IN THIS POSITION, I FEEL THIS COULD BE AN IDEAL SITUATION FOR A SHORT AND FIRE IN THE DOOR LOCATION.
