I'm mentioning my issue here in case it might help someone else in future. I don't consider this was a serious problem and the vehicle performance was not affected in any way. I attribute this issue to normal wear and tear, and the fact the vehicle is now 8 years old with 114k miles on it. The Service Stabilitrack light came on on a Monday, the next day the Check Engine light came on. I hadn't subjected my vehicle to situations where I would assume the need for traction control was necessary and the Stabilitrack would have been deployed; I just happened to be sitting still at a red light one day when the Stabilitrack light lit up. I continued driving with no change in the vehicle's performance or handling. The following day when I started the Torrent, in addition to the Stabilitrack light being on, the Engine light came on as well. My thought was that these two messages appearing within 24 hours of each other must mean they are somehow connected. I continued driving for several weeks before I could get to a mechanic, and still noticed no issues with the performance of the vehicle during that time. When finally I took the Torrent in to get it checked, it was a fairly easy diagnosis and fix. The mechanic told me there were two codes being relayed pertaining to the EGR valve, and from his research this will many times also cause the Stabilitrack light to come on as well. What I have from the mechanic notes on my bill receipt are: "P0404, EGR open position performance. P0405, EGR position b sensor circuit low voltage. Clean EGR ports, replace valve and gasket." The mechanic told me that every once in a while the valve would not open when it should, and this generated the code and check engine light. He did a thorough cleaning to make sure parts were operational and cleared the codes. The service only took a couple of hours to complete. So now I have my vehicle back and all seems to be fine.
