I only live about 12 blocks from my work and the car is overheating before I can get there. I have changed thermostat several times. There is never any puddle under the car as though something is leaking. The cooling fan sometimes kicks in sometimes does not. I have to put water in the car about once a week. Every time I do I hear what sounds like water running in the dashboard every time a start the car.

overheating and loss of coolant

The last straw with this car was the overheating problem, and the continuous smell of antifreeze from under the hood. This 3.4 l engine design is among the GM V6s that have had troubles for years with intake manifolds and gaskets. Don't be fooled like I was thinking the plastic intake that crack had been changed to aluminum and the problem doesn't exist anymore. The same week I got this POS back from my mechanic for front and rear wheel bearing with abs sensors on the drivers side at a cost of over $700. BTW the front steel casing wheel bearing are pressed into aluminum and steering knuckle. My Mechanic inform me getting the bearing out involved taking the knuckle completely out and using a heavy duty press. Maybe after replacing the same wheel bearing multiple times times in next couple of years like some have complained, it will become easier. Sorry to rumble about wheel bearings when the complaint was about the crappy manifold design, but the picture should be painted that the problems are continuous with this overall clunker. GM should have fired all their engineers and not just those of the Pontiac division. When someone tells you their car is a mechanic's best friend it means the car has spent more time with the mechanic then with you, and spending all your hard earned money like a sex crazed John visiting his hooker three times a week. Dump this POS before you go broke.
