This van was really sick. Those are the words of the repairman. It had been overheating anytime the heater was turned on, and the thermostat had been replaced 3 times, among other things. Took it to a good ole boy out in the middle of nowhere who was finally able to diagnose the head gasket problem, which was subsequently replaced. After that, the temperature still didn't regulate properly.

My dad took it to another mechanic who figured out that there are 2 thermostats on the car, and they had been replacing the same one over and over again, when it was the other one that was broken.

Additionally, the radio light went out, paint bubbled on the hood, driver's side window motor replaced 3 times, remote mirror adjusters broke, starter went bad, universal joint went bad, power steering went bad

Caused by overheated engine I think (had a intake manifold gasket go bad a month earlier). If your intake manifold gasket goes bad, make sure the mechanic checks the head gasket also. They can do the manifold gasket for much less since they have to go through it to get to the heads anyhow.
