First of all, I know my car is no longer in warranty. I have a 2000 Pontiac GTP 4-door that has been kept in a garage all of its life. Only driven in the rain maybe 5 times in its life.
My problem is the paint on the lower door panel skirts, and door moldings, turns cloudy white while sitting in the garage. I can apply wax and it hides it, but then after a few weeks it turns cloudy white again. I am using a premium wax---Mequiar's.
I noticed another Pontiac Grand Prix in my town a few weeks ago that the same panels I am referring to had turned black---on a red car just like mine.
I am adding a photo of my car, and two pics of the cloudy clear coat too.
Was there ever a problem with the paint application on the panels I am referring to?? Did Gm screw up and use the wrong type of sealer. Or were there chemicals in the trim that bleed through the clear coat over time? The trim pieces are either plastic or fiberglass I believe.
It would be nice if GM would own up to paint quality problems, but I wouldn't count on it ever happening.
