There was a loud boom and flames came to the windshield from under the hood. I pulled the car over and jumped out to safety. The engine burned and the front of the car was destroyed. Everything under the hood was destroyed. The brakes were also destroyed. The ignition didn't work but I was able to get the key out. There was no power the car.

Early Monday morning got into car as normal to go to work, turned the key to start and immediatly there was a loud thump then smoke started pouring out of hood area, I opened the hood and the engine was engulfed in flames, the noise was so loud it woke my family in which they called the fire department by then I had already ran to my boat to retrieve my fire extinguisher to put the fire out, luckily I had the extinguisher and was able to cancel fire department call and put the fire out by myself, now I am awaiting estimate from mechanic to see if engine can be salvaged or if it is a total loss

I was driving my 99 grandprix gtp that I bought about 3 weeks ago from a car dealer. I was driving around and braking pretty hard with lots of stop and go traffic. I then later went home and parked the car in the drive way. Well I moved it out of the drive way to in front of the house. About 10 mins later I heard cars outside it was 3am I ran to tell my friends people were messing with the car but then when we all returned to the window my car was on fire. I know the people that were by my car and there all really close friends none of them ever been in trouble so the only thing I can think of is the recall but me and my buddies that were inside are being threatened with arson charges. It burnt up most of the engine bay and melted some paint off the passenger side panel.

The contact owns a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. Within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, the brake line failed. The contact pulled into her driveway and noticed that she was no longer able to brake. She took the vehicle back to the sales dealer and they repaired the failure, although she noticed in March of 2009 that the battery failed. The contact purchased another battery. The same day, the fuel pump and fuel filter malfunctioned, which the contact noticed when the vehicle was shut off. The contact had the failures replaced, but the vehicle still would not remain on. She had not taken the vehicle to the dealer or spoken with the manufacturer. The current mileage was approximately 135,700 and failure mileage was 135,533.

Was driving home from a trip, and shortly after filling my car up with gas, I heard a 'bang', and the engine bay burst into flames. After this happened, I pulled over, and by the time I actually stopped the car, the fire was already entering the inside of the car. By the time I exited the car, the front half was completely on fire. By the time I walked around 100 feet away from the car, the entire car was engulfed in the fire. So far it is uncertain what actually caused the fire, and it is currently being investigated by my insurance company. There was nothing that could be done to correct the failure, as the car was a total loss. I am very upset that this happened, and if my kids would have been in the car at the time of the fire, I may not have been able to get them out of the car in time. The fire spread very, very fast... I've never seen anything like it. Prior to this incident, the car was trouble free, and this came as a complete surprise. I am even more upset now, because I found out that I'm not the only one who has had this problem with their Pontiac Grand Prix gtp, infact, there are a lot of reports identical to my own. General Motors really needs to step up and do something about this. This is a major safety hazard, and could easily get someone killed.
