I wonder how effective this website will be does GM ever look here? Thanks to people on the web, i figured out the problem was the passlock system. The owner's manual just describes the problem as needing repair nothing more. Really GM? The public has to fix your problems for you? Requiring back-yard engineering to get to work? Shame on GM. Last month GM posted their biggest month ever? Really? anyone heard of cooking the books? GM get your stuff together and fix it now! Do you think I would by GM again or recommend? not a chance!!!

You never know when this will happen. Keys barely can turn ignition switch. Afraid one of these times I will be stranded.

like others, this is an inconvenience that would be appreciated if Pontiac would pick up the bill on.

I have a 2005 Grand Am, with 72000 miles. This car has now become a pain. It has left me stranded, and had to be towed numerous times. It has a mind of it's own. Sometimes it will start, sometimes it won't. My local garage said it was the fuel pump, and I had it replaced. Wrong!! The dealer said it was the security system, they wanted over $400. to fix it. The local garage says no it's not the security system. From all the complaints I've read. YES it is the Passlock antitheft system. Shame on you GM! Tomorrow, I am stopping by the garage, who still has my car after a month. Just can't figure out whats wrong????. They keep shaking their heads over it. I want the system dismantled. I hate to admit I use to work for you, and loved my Grand Am. It's the second one I have owned. Going to a foreign car now......bye GM.

Suddenly, I have a "Security" issue with my 2005 Grand Am. There appears to be no reason for it. I don't even have a local Pontiac dealer to bring it to. From what I've read this is either an annoyance that you have to put up with or pay a ridiculous amount of money to get it fixed. I've got a letter started to, but I don't quite know who to send it to yet. Hopefully, I'll be able to send it to someone specific, not some generic receiver of complaints, but that will take a lot more research.

If you have any information about what I can expect, please let me know about it. I am concerned that it can cause sudden problems, like cutting off the car while I am driving or even something less intrusive. Can I drive indefinitely with this problem? Thanks for your help.

Grand Am SE 3.2L V6

It's a nice enough car. Good leg room, comfortable to ride in, but it's a pain in the ass to ride in it on the occasions that the theft deterrent system won't let it start. It's the passlock sensor at fault- hundreds of people know that- Pontiac knows it (I know they know it because I've taken it out on a few different poor souls who represent Pontiac when I've called about it.)

What I can say about it is, at this point, the "turn the key on for 10 minutes" thing works, but it's a bullshit way of doing things when it should just work the way it's supposed to. The way I see it, I could just take the payment that the bank wants for the car and shell it out to get the passlock sensor replaced (actually that would be closer to 2 payments) but the fact is, the bank didn't build the car or the POS passlock sensor that's f**d up.

So, what I think I'll do is just keep calling Pontiac to inconvenience them until they decide to issue a bulletin and look into issuing a recall to fix this as they should have a long time ago. If anyone agrees with me, call your local dealer and ask them for the number to the corporate office, and give them a ring! If everyone who has had a problem like this, or even other problems with this car, called them once every few days to "check up on the status of the bulletin or recall" their lines would be too tied up to even schedule trips in the company private jet! They can ignore my calls and my language easy enough- but it's much harder to ignore hundreds of calls like mine. Just a thought.

Thanks! I really do appreciate the forum to vent! :)
