One day a short while ago I was horrified to see smoke coming out of the space between my steering wheel and the steering column. It was accompanied by a burning smell. I have been avoiding going to have it looked at because I'm afraid of how much it would cost just to take the column apart. At the same time, as much as I joke about my piece of crap of a car going up in smoke I can't think about it really happening. I have put so much money into this car for problems that seem to occur with other Grand Am and Grand Prix vehicles.

So.. .I was driving down the road the other day and smelled something burning...looked down and smoke was coming from between the steering wheel and column... it stopped after a few minutes. My husband had asked one of his mechanic friends about it and he said we were lucky the air bag did not deploy so he took the air bag fuse out... but this is still a little annoying trying to figure out what it could be... anyone know?

I have also had MANY other problems with this car, went through about 5 wheel bearings in 6 months... brakes like crazy. The damn thing does the not starting thing and you have to turn the key on for 10 min... turning signal makes a clicking noise constantly... ANNOYING.. I could go on for days about this car
