Steering is going out on the vehicle. Vehicle is in the shop due to a recall on the hazard signal. When putting on the turn signal to go left or right the steering would sound like it makes awhistling noise. From underneath it sounds like knocking or rattling sound.

Vehicles turn signals are intermittent and inoperative at times. This is in all modes whether right, left, or hazards. There is a voluntary recall for my make of vehicle and year, but the actual manufactures date involved in the recall excludes my vehicle. I have spent a couple hundred dollars replacing the multipurpose switch in the steering column, but the problem persist. The recall exactly describes the problem with my vehicle however it missed the recall inclusive date by a few months. If I beat on the dash just above the radio the turn signals and hazard lights will work.

I purchased my vehicle in Feb. Of 2000 brand new. Starting last summer, I noticed a clicking noise coming from the stereo area of my vehicle. The noise seems to come from the hazard warning lights switch located just above my radio. Since the switch still worked, I figured it was something physical that was loose behind the molding. This summer, when the temperature got extreme hot in the months of June and July, the clicking started again. I then noticed another problem. Sometimes my turn signal lights do not work. I will have to hit the hazard warning lights button a few times to get my turn signals to work. I was going to have an estimate for the cost of replacement, but found out that there was a recall on these incidents. The NHTSA campaign id is 03V327000. Reading the recall notice shows that my car is showing the same problems. The problems with the turn signal did not start until the hot summer months of June and July (they continue every so often as of this complaint). I called the GM customer assistance number and gave them my VIN. Toynicia jackson answered and said I should reference case 1-238622769. She was very helpful but said the reason I did not get a recall notice was because my vehicle was not covered. Even though it is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, she said that it could have had different parts used. I plan on sending information to GM/Pontiac as well about this issue. Since I am having the same problems as described in the NHTSA recall notice I believe my vehicle should be covered under the recall. Please look into this matter. My VIN is [xxx]. the vehicle is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am which I purchased new in Feb. Of 2000. Consumer has the same problem as NHTSA campaigns # 03V327000: Hazard warning switches that may experience solder joint cracking caused by rapid temperature transitions and the soldering process. If solder joint cracking occurs and results in an open circuit, the turn signals/hazard lamps become intermittent or inoperative. Dealership indicated your vehicle is not include in this recall due to the VIN#.

I own a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT. At about 15,000 miles my blinkers starting either just comming on by theirself or would not work at all. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced the hazard switch. Then, about 6 thousand miles later, my front end started shaking and making noise. I took it to the dealer and they said my brakes were down to the rotor and I would need new brakes and rotors. I asked if it would be covered under warranty, and they said the warranty only covered the brakes until 20,000 miles and it would cost me $500 to fix the problem. I took the car to my mechanic and had performace brakes and rotors put on my car for $375 (I had read a few reports of others having problems and having to go back to the dealer every 5-6 thousand miles and did not want to go through that, and concider myself luchy that they lasted as long as they did.). I have put another 15,000 miles on my performace brakes and rotors with no problems. My mechanic also saw that I had a plug in my right front tire. I have never had to take my car in for a flat since I have owned the vehicle, so my guess is that the dealer put the plug in the tire. I have been reading similar complaints from people that own 2001, 2002, and even 2003 Grand Am. Apparently they are using cheap parts on a "performace car" and are ignoring the problem and something need to be done, before someones brakes go out completely. There is also a problem with the passengers front seat not locking in place. If you do not push the seat back all the way fairly hard and check the seat lever to make sure that it came back up, the seat will slide all the way fwd during even light breaking. The seat has done this since I have owned the car. If they used better components on their car and would stop cutting corners they would not be having theses problems.
